Wellbeing > Disability Inclusion Profile
At our school, we’re committed to ensuring every student can learn, participate, and thrive.
The Disability Inclusion Profile is a strengths-based document for students with disabilities that outlines their strengths, needs, and the educational adjustments required to help them take part fully in school life.
It is developed through a collaborative meeting involving the student, their family, and school staff, with guidance from a trained Disability Inclusion Facilitator. The process helps our school and families work together to ensure the student receives the right support to reach their full potential.
PURPOSE AND KEY COMPONENTS: –
- Focus on strengths: Highlights what the student enjoys, what motivates them, and their aspirations for the future.
- Identifies needs: Describes the student’s functional needs across daily school activities, such as learning tasks, self-care, social interaction, and movement.
- Determines adjustments: Helps our school identify and implement the educational adjustments needed to support the student’s learning and participation.
HOW THE PROCESS WORKS: –
- Collaborative meeting: A trained facilitator leads a meeting with the Student Support Group, which includes parents or carers and school staff.
- Student and family input: The student and their family are encouraged to share their experiences, goals, and ideas about what helps the student learn and succeed.
- Facilitator role: The facilitator guides the discussion and records the information to create a written profile that the school will use to plan and deliver support.
Purpose for the school: The profile helps schools understand each student as an individual and create an inclusive environment where they can participate on an equal basis with their peers.
